It will be my first read when I get back to England. When I was staying with my parents', I read an Elizabeth Buchnan book called <i>Consider the Lily</i>. It has many of the same elements: the old house, the crumbling aristocratic order, ghosts. I am a sucker for this kind of story.<br /><br />Your interview with Sarah Waters was a real treat. Thanks for introducing me to Sarah Waters. Like many Americans, I've always been fascinated by the aristocratic culture of the UK, but at the same time find it difficult to sympathize with characters who aren't used to having to "work" for a living. This novel sounds like an interesting look at this time period.<br /><br />I wish I had had time to join in this month; ironically, I hadn't read a good book until this weekend when I finally finished "The White Garden," a novel I thoroughly enjoyed.
