Winter Solstice on Popham Beach

As the days fade to sunrise by sunset,

Colors glow in russet hues.

We choose to walk in empty spaces,

Where islands float in solitude,

Embering the lingering rays,

That wash dunes flat and grey.

But in the final moment,

The sun defies the solstice,

Painting winter in gaudy tones,

And reflecting infinite sky in endless sea.

Then into blackness, another year goes.

Festive Holidays and Happy New Year!

  1. Sarah,
What amazing, amazing shots and beautiful poetry. I sure have missed visiting your blog - how I've deprived myself this year of inspiration from my blogger friends. Another year goes into blackness, but the days in 2013 will surely fade into inspiring sunrise by sunset!!!

  4. Oh my! What a gorgeous photographic/poetic essay. I love it. And that puppy is growing up. The goldens are the most beautiful breed of dogs, wonderful hunters and perfect family pets. The only small drawback I ever found was is they get in a tangle thickets and burrs they must a be whole lot of combing afterwards. Happy Holidays and New Year to you and yours, Sarah.

  6. Beautiful collection of poetry and photos, Sarah, I love those colours.

In the blackness, a new year will rise again, setting off on its 365 days long journey. Despite all the bad that happens, there is also so much good and it is wonderful to be a witness of that. Let's get ready for the journey! :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
