Mud Season in Maine


Pond ice is thinning.


Seawater is flowing into estuaries.


Maybe my last day on skis?


The backyard cover is only ankle deep.


Sidewalks thaw and mud oozes.


The beach has just a frosting of snow, a glazing of ice. 
It's nearly the end of winter,
but not quite the start of spring.
Mud Season.

    I always thought this was a neat season--one I did not remember from my youth. Hope it passes soon and spring comes.

    It's already spring in Georgia but here in Provincetown, we're still having winter, just hours done with a blizzard. Loved seeing your photos.

    Ah yes--mud season! I know it well, and we're deep in it here in Wisconsin, too. Even though our temps will be in the 60s on Sunday, there's still a lot of lake ice to melt. The snow is nearly gone, but plenty of mud for the next several weeks. Springtime in the north! ;-)

    Yup. Mud season. Ours started yesterday. Better late than never. Of course, I already caught heck for forgetting to wipe the new dogs paws yesterday when I let her in....:(

    This has been an exceptionally long winter and your photos illustrate the feeling that we are just now emerging from beneath a layer of permafrost.

    Although you call this "Mud season", your photos are so beautiful. Particularly love the last one. I wish I could be on the beach!
