It's hard to work at home when the trees are calling me outside.
A day of writing merits a walk to Bowdoin College...
...says Scout.
Rolling in fallen leaves offers a fine view of the sugar maples.
Often we linger to watch the sunset over Hubbard Hall,
where my husband teaches politics.
Other days we head home for sundowners in our backyard,
wrapped in fleece and down.
The view from inside isn't too shabby,
and reading in the tub doesn't feel like work at all.
Looks like a wonderful walk! ( and tub!) As my 16 year old searches fora college/what to do with my life plan, I always pay a bit more attention to anything college related…and not too far away! Beautiful photos…especially love the view up into the maple, and how dark the trunk looks in contrast.
ReplyDeleteYou have the most beautiful autumns!
ReplyDeleteI love my nightly bath - but listening to music instead of reading :))
Enjoyed this. My old neighbor (since passed) graduated from Bowdoin and often spoke of its beauty. Love the tub.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Sarah! Thanks for sharing these. Gorgeous campus. Our leaves are all down here, but no snow yet. It must be an inspiring place to write!
ReplyDeleteLucky you, to have all this beauty around you! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Monica, best of luck with your college search and do look me up if you visit Bowdoin. It's a fabulous school, and you'd appreciate that it has its own organic garden and great food.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I once read that the bathroom was the room at home that most moms rated highest for relaxation.
MR, I love watching the old alumns coming back to Bowdoin. I'm sorry for your loss.
Cue, we're past peak but it's still lovely and we've had some flurries too. Nothing has stuck beyond some hail.
ACIL, indeed! I envy you too be in London.
The perfect fall setting for an aura of learning and contemplation...:)
ReplyDeleteYou capture our paradise well!
ReplyDeleteSarah, the autumnal colours and views feel so rich and enriching and I had to smile when seeing the autumnal tint of the bathroom based on the view from its windows. I love that tub! :)
ReplyDeletetroutbirder, thanks!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte, we are lucky to live here!
Petra, I love how you see everything through the lens of a camera.
Such gorgeous photos on this post and the last--they always make me want to pack a bag and head Northeast this time of year! It's hard to stay indoors on days like these; Scout has the right idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures. I credit the photographer for having the eye to capture the beauty! We have a claw-foot tub in our guest bath and nobody will use it. They all want to use our shower because it's massive. If I ever take a bath, I take it in the garden tub. So, as charming as it is, we'll probably eventually have the bathroom remodeled and take out the tub and exchange it for a shower.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this! You should publish a book of these. I would definitely buy it and buy copies as gifts for others!
ReplyDeleteRose, our goldens are a good reminder to take a walk.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, our guestroom has a shallower bath with a shower, but since many of our guests and my husband are British, we appreciate a good bathtub.
Donna, thank you! You do encourage me. Maybe one year I'll have enough photo poetry posts for a book.
Your autumnal photographs are stunning -- and so evocative. I've never seen an English-style bath in the US. Perhaps they are more common in "New" England than in Texas?
