Another frost Monday morning,
Not as deep as the last.
The sun rose to a sky free of clouds,
But the mist hung heavy
In shades of smudged pastel.
Pink became lavender then blue.
An ancient oak wavered on the horizon,
A mirage, an illusory presence.
As the sun climbed,
Port Meadow melted from white to green,
A Polaroid developing.
The winter chill receded.
The Thames unfolded reflections like a fan.
A watercolor danced upon the pond.
Oxford steeples were rendered
With sunlit brushstrokes.
Fallen trees reminders of past floods,
Their limbs bleached skeletons.
I looked back.
My frozen footprints had vanished.
The mist was gone.
No blog next week.
Tune back February 28th
For the second half
Of my year in England.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Henry, this poem is for you.
Twenty good years.
Twenty good years.
Lovely, Sarah. John and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last August. Who knew we could find men to put up with us for so long?!

Congratulations on 2 decades! Henry and I have been married 17 years, but I count from the day we met. It was so random given our different nationalities. Here’s the story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post - the photographs and accompanying words are beautiful. I was glad that you included a link to your earlier post about how you met up with Henry. Talk about romantic! It sounds like love at first sight ...

ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I can't compete with either the beautiful poetry or the fantastic photos, so I'll just edit one thing. It's been twenty BRILLIANT years!
Happy Valentine's Day!
