A Winter Valentine

Fields of white, skies so blue and shadow stripes.

Cutting trails and chasing golden light,

To hidden seascapes of frozen time.

Then lifting shovels instead of weights,

And curling up fireside with my Valentine.

Looks familliar. Are you taking these shots from my house when I'm away? Ha. Beautiful photos, Sarah.

These are ALL my favourites, but the hidden seascape of frozen time is especially magical.

It's still cold and damp here, (but then it usually is), but we seem to be casting off winter. I saw the first daffodils yesterday!

(Gasps) My God! This is just absolutely beautiful. I mean, I know that a lot of people are being affected by the snow as I write (Chicago comes to mind), but your photos are breath-taking. And that killer at the end is priceless. The good, ol' fire, where we all warm our bones, cuddled up with our loved one. :-)

Greetings from London.

Dear Sarah, The fire and the ice....such striking winter companions and how beautifully you have illustrated them here. I do so hope that you are keeping safe in this most extreme of weather conditions, but it does all make for such amazing photographs!

Sometimes beauty is in extremes. I love that I can see the world through your eyes when I visit your blog. Gorgeous and transporting.

Oh, the seascape.
Total beauty.
We are looking for more snow tonight. Not that much, but still a rarity for us.

Sarah, your post brought a great deal of inspiration to me, could you come and read my comment expressed in the form of my own post?

SO gorgeous (though, I know those of you who have been getting tons of it are probably saying 'enough already!!'). Thanks for bringing me some snow, since we're not getting any of the real stuff here!

I love your photos, they make me dream of Maine more and more.

Dare I say it? We need some fresh snow....

That's beautiful! I wish I had your talent at putting pictures and words so nicely together like that. Have a happy Valentine's Day!

Lovely, inspiring photos and poetic post, Sarah. It's been rather drab and rainy here. Time to bury oneself in books. I enjoyed the links you provided. How did you meet and become friends with Hari? College?

I love the impressions of the skis in the snow bank. We just returned from Colorado where 34" of snow fell while we were there! Such a magical quality to the landscape when covered with snow.

Beautiful words and images of your world Sarah and what a lovely day and evening for you and your Valentine. I love your friend and Comedy Central in general. It is so great to just laugh from a deep place. That someone can free you to express joy that way is truly an art.

All, thanks! Sorry to be so late to respond. I was offline the week I posted this.

Bee, do share your daffs. We won’t see ours for months.

Petra, I’m honored by your poetic response – thank you!

KKB and The Social Frog, welcome to my blog and thank you!

Charlotte, yes, more snow is needed. It is too slippery now.

W2W, I’m flattered that you thought I went to college with Hari. He’s actually a former student of my husband’s and more than a decade younger than me. I bet we’ll be hearing more of Hari in the decades to come. His show was hilarious.

Absolutely beautiful, just the kind of winter landscape I enjoy seeing where other people live.

Les, ha! I’m sure the emphasis was on “other people.” Actually this year, the south may have had more snow. Ours just takes longer to melt.
