Puppy Contortions

Scout at three months

Growing too quickly?

yoga with pterodactyls

advanced camouflage lessons

At work: uh, thanks for the reminder.

It's a short post this week.  My son's play opens on Friday.  He's playing Hortensio in Taming of the Shrew.  Yesterday he passed his driving test on the first attempt. As for my daughter, she just finished soccer season and has joined a rock band. Scout has started puppy class. Now that painting season is over, I'm back to work revising my young adult novel. Sometimes I feel like I'm chasing my tail.

I just dropped the word "blog" from my title.  Hard to believe, but when I started nearly five years ago, most people didn't know what a blog was.  I wanted to distinguish this page from my website and to avoid confusing search engines, but I think people will still find me.

Enjoy the last of the golden maples!

It's too bad they have to grow up - puppies or kids, but it's exciting to watch them change and grow. But you have to stop posting pictures of Scout or I'll want a puppy even more!

Dear Sarah,
Scout is a visual delight as I bet she is in reality -- as well as quite a lot of work too (but worth it) as with all our young people.
You sound very busy.
Yes, we pioneer bloggers go back quite a while now.
As for work, I'm merely typing up poems. Hm.....
Enjoy the fall before it turns evilly cold.

Good on your son for passing the first time. I only managed to pass mine after the fifth time. What instrument does your daughter play in the band? Great yoga pose, that of your little puppy! I might copy it myself. :-)

Enjoy autumn in your little neck of the woods.

Greetings from London.

Congrats to your son on passing the driving test. Not easy in Maine.

I just can't get enough of Scout--such an adorable cutie! They do grow up so fast, just like children who are one day learning to walk and the next day taking your car:) I'm sure you're ready for Scout to grow out of some annoying habits, but at the same time, enjoy this cute stage. Have fun at puppy class!

One day, we hope to be able to enjoy a pup that looks just like Scout. Congrats to your son. Soccer season is just now kicking into gear for us - then indoor begins. My son got an electric guitar for his birthday last month - it is still fun hearing him strumming away in his bedroom. Look forward to hearing more about your son's play. And finally some writing time for you! :)

i can almost feel that soft puppy fur from these photos. looks like you're having a glorious fall! good luck to your son on his opening night - and congrats on his driver's test!

(will you be letting him drive alone soon? — i remember the first time i watched the taillights disappear around the corner as my daughter drove away....it's a first for moms as well ;-)

Cid and Rose, how right you are. Scout has doubled in size in the month we've had her. Soon I'll be looking back at these images with nostalgia.

Elizabeth, I like that term: "pioneer bloggers!" It was 60 yesterday but due to snow tomorrow night. Yikes!

ACIL, in the band my daughter is playing electric guitar and writing the music when they do their own stuff. She'd like to sing too some day. At home she plays classical piano and acoustic guitar. Shall we call the pose downward puppy?

Tina, of his guy friends, he's the only one who passed first time round. It helped having over a year of practice.

MS, we might be looking into electric guitars too. At the moment she's borrowing one. We just bought her a really nice acoustic guitar for her last birthday.

Amanda, he'll be taking a practice solo drive during the day on Friday before driving off for the weekend at a friend's house - assuming he's finished homework, caught up on sleep and the weather is OK. Me, worry?

Hello Sarah

Scout is growing up so fast!

I am happy for your son and daughter(so much going on at one time). The Maple tree is beautiful and thank you for sharing.

Hope you will have a great day.

Your pup is adorable;-) Maine looks wonderful this time of year! I took my drivers test in Maine, many years ago...and failed the first time around because I needed more practice on Parallel Parking! I learned to drive on a stick shift and the test was on a steep hill in Portland. However, I'm an 'expert' now, after all that great training;-) Congrat's to your son. Funny thing is that here in VA, Parallel Parking isn't taught and it's not on the test! I think it should be...because my 23 yr old daughter has still never attempted it!

Good luck to your son in his play! I wish I could go and see that; I love a good play and I've never seen that one. It sounds like life is busy but good for you right now, and that's good!

She's getting so big! Cute post!
Passed the driving test his first time- big relief I know! Hope he "Break's a leg"- never got why that is a comment of good luck, but nonetheless, wishing him luck. Rock band- way to go!!! My niece just told me she joined one- she plays bass guitar and my nephew in TN, I also just found out is now playing drums in a band. Where did the musical talent come from I don't know cause it is not from either of my brothers...

Outstanding photos of the fall leaves in this post and the one below. I kind of like the way the colors appear burnt instead of bright. Thanks so much for sharing the Maine fall with the rest of us.

Sarah, Your puppy is so adorable and I so envy you that sweet puppy love. Your life sounds so busy no wonder you feel like you are going in circles. From those circles comes much love and creativity. Your kids sound great. Good luck on your writing.

He is just adorable. And they do grow so fast. We just returned from three weeks visiting the grandchildren in Arizona. I thought of you this morning when watching the weather report on the amount of snow and power outages in New England. Ouch!

Hi, Sarah, thanks for your comment. U2 wrote the song AFTER the book came out.

Greetings from London.

All, thanks for your good wishes. I got a bit behind on blog comments these past busy weeks.

Jan, great story! I can parallel park but I don't know how to drive a stick shift.

Carol, I still need to figure out how to do an automatic hyperlink (without another click) from a blog page to my website. I shall call my website host helpline, but in the meantime you can click to my website home page from my profile at top right.

troutbirder, welcome back!

Barrie, revisions are on the go.

ACIL, how cool is that? Fiction became real.
